Current events

[edit]

CLAES, thank you for your efforts on supporting some Wikipedia articles.

Many articles, which correspond to current events, are being updated by users, making information in the articles valid almost all the time. And most users, visiting the articles, expect to see the information valid at this moment. I don't mean any speculative information, of course.

Could you please provide valid reasons for why articles must not be updated until the event of interest is complete? Svmich (talk) 16:15, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey player statistics should not be updated until the season has ended. I think it should be the same with cups. Wikipedia is en encyclopaedia, not an up to date stats central, there are other better web sites for that. But I won't take this further as I don't have the energy to argue on Wikipedia, so do what you think is best. Btw, here's a tip, don't save everytime you have made a change to a an article, use the "show preview" button instead, and when you are happy with all edits hit the save button. Otherwise you'll be creating a lot of versions of the same article with small edits. --claes (talk) 18:14, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The GMT GAMES item

[edit]

Why the alteration to the GMT Games entry to remove the data about its owner, Gene Billingsley? It is completely accurate data, as can be determined by accessing the appropriate court records in California, as well as media reports there. He is, in fact, a convicted child molester who was jailed for his crime and is now back working full time at the firm. Truth is truth. So, why the removal? smn —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stephen newberg (talkcontribs)

No sources were cited. --claes 19:49, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By that criteria, most of Wiki would be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stephen newberg (talkcontribs)
Yes, most of Wikipedia is fairly unsourced. Many articles are scrutinized and if no sources are backing up statements they're removed, especially controversial and sensitive statements. Take a look at the article 300 (film), for example. --claes 14:23, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, here is your cite: On September 13, 2002 the Hanford (California) Sentinel reported: "Eldon Gene Billingsley, 42, of Hanford, was sentenced to three years in state prison Monday after being charged with touching a young girl inappropriately in January at his home. This is the maximum term, District Attorney's officials said, for molestation of a child of 14 to 15 years old." (Sentencing 09-09-02; Department 2; Case #02-4216)" For further, you will have to check into the actual releasable case documents in California. smn —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stephen newberg (talkcontribs)

Sources for Fredrik Olausson

[edit]

Hello. Good work on Fredrik Olausson, and thanks for the contribution. However, you did not provide any references or sources in the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. Can you list in the article any websites, books, or other sources that will allow people to verify the content in Fredrik Olausson? You can simply add links, preferably as inline citations, or see citation templates for different citation methods. Thanks! Shawnc 13:06, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SE vs. SWE

[edit]

I know that but isn't CS for czechoslovakia and CZE for Czech Rep? Look at all the canadian players infoboxes, they all have CAN. And I would guess that the SWE abbreviation is more recognizable then SE, outside of the scandinavian countries. --Krm500 21:18, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize. While adding a source for Lidstrom being named captain, I must have started editing before your edit went through, and then hit "save page" after your edit, which reverted it. I did not even see your edit until you told me about it on my talk page, and I definitely did not intentionally revert it. I don't know now whether it's better to revert back to your version, and then add my citation, or add your citations to my version, but either way, I encourage you to re-add what looks to be excellent citations. Thanks for not freaking out after I reverted your good edit. --Muéro 17:27, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nya infoboxen i Linköpings HC-artikeln

[edit]

:S - x-Flare-x 02:21, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Tanken är att där kan namnbyten listas. Se Frölunda HC. --claes 09:34, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Age in Infobox

[edit]

Age is NOT to be included in infoboxes. Please revert your changes The strokes 01:17, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. Take a look at where the template Birth date and age is used: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Birth_date_and_age, only in infoboxes. So there are a lot more people than me that believe age should be included in infoboxes. --claes 06:43, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Ice Hockey Newsletter

Dear CLAES! You are receiving this newsletter because you have signed up as a member of WikiProject Ice Hockey. The purpose of this newsletter is to update on the goings on of the project, as there have been major changes, and a lot of new recognized content in the past few weeks. If you are an inactive user, you probably won't recognize the new and improved state of the WikiProject!

From the project, Maxim.

New recognized content

By Maxim
There have been a lot more Good and Featured articles written in the past few weeks. Here is a list:[1][2][3][4]

Featured articles
Good articles
Featured lists[5]
Notes
  1. ^ All articles are in order of promotion, as written on the main WikiProject page; FA's have official dates of promotions.
  2. ^ A star represents a featured article or list
  3. ^ A green circle represents a good article
  4. ^ Stanley Cup is an A-Class article
  5. ^ The lists system differs from articles, and doesn't give an official date of promotion
Article Improvement

By Maxim

Upon some discussion on the WikiProject talk page, the Article Improvement Drive page was revamped by Krm500 and Maxim. It was renamed Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Article Improvement, and it includes two section. The first section is called articles in dire need of improvement. It list articles, usually important, that are in very poor shape. The second section is called requested help. Users list an article they request help improving a certain article, which will facilitate collaboration, which is the aim of any WikiProject. There is one article currently listed there, Henrik Lundqvist, here. The goal is to at least get it to Good article status.

Diacritics

By Maxim

In the past few weeks, there has been quite heated discussion about the use of diacritics in article name. The current guideline is using diacritics in the pages of articles of all player names which require them, but redirects are exempt.

Task forces

By Maxim
There have been two new task forces started within the WikiProject to coordinate major topics.

Sweden Ice Hockey task force

This task force was initiated by Krm500. Its current goal is to improve Henrik Lundqvist to Good or Featured article status. It covers all Swedish clubs, leagues and competitions and associated articles, players and coaches that are Swedish, or have played/coached for a Swedish club, and arenas in Sweden. They plan to eventually operate as a sort of a sub-project, which will have its own articles for creation, ranking importance and quality of articles, and co-ordinate article improvement. Its current members are Krm500, Bamsefar75, and CLAES.

New Jersey Devils task force

This task force was initiated by Bsroiaadn. Its goal is to improve New Jersey Devils to Featured Topic status. Although it currently meets the required article count, the task force wishes to improve it further. Its area of coverage is very similar to the Sweden Ice Hockey task force. Its members are Bsroiaadn, JHMM13, FutureNJGov, Sportskido8, Michael Greiner, JRWalko, and Soxrock.

Requested Images

By Maxim
After discussion on the WikiProject talk page, Serte created a page for Requested Images. The page encourages users to license images for use on articles. The page also has section to request images for players, arenas, game situations, miscellaneous, and team and league logos. The page has been quite popular; since it was created on July 21, there have been six completed requests. There are four currently outstanding requests:

Article assessement completed

By Maxim
On July 12, Kaiser matias announced that he had completed assessing all the articles with a {{ice hockey}} tag, sorting them into Category:Unassessed Ice Hockey articles. Kaiser matias has ranked about 9000 articles in that category, and most were stubs, and "have no information at all", according to him. Everybody is encouraged to expand the stubs into real articles. This effort took around 5 months. A big thanks goes to Kaiser matias from me and all the project.

Thanks for uploading Image:Cadwallon cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Card Football, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Speedy deletion of Card Football

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Card Football requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Card Football and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 17:14, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Featured Topic Drive

By Maxim

The original featured topic drive, initiated by Scorpion0422, has concluded succesfully. National Hockey League awards is now a featured topic, with 24 articles in total. Of them, 20 are featured lists, one is a featured article, and the other three are trophy articles that were too short to become featured lists. Eight users signed up to help out, shown here. The next Featured Topic hasn't been decided upon, and the ideas and organization for it fell apart. If you have any ideas, don't hesitate to share them at WT:HOCKEY.

Notes
  • More editors are needed to help out with the newsletter. The newsletter creator doesn't have an infinite nor perfect supply of ideas, and thus he might omit some interesting news.
  • Portal:Ice hockey is being considered for featured status.
  • Should Chris Pronger have been suspended for more than eight games for stomping on Ryan Kesler? Vote here!
  • Help Patrik Stefan -- one of the greatest NHL draft busts -- become a GA status article.

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Leigh Ronald Grossman, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Leigh Ronald Grossman is unquestionably copyright infringement, and no assertion of permission has been made.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Leigh Ronald Grossman, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Record is the team's current, up until and including the game where the entry is, win-loss-tie record, i.e. 1-2-1 would mean that currently the team has won 1 game, lost 2 games and tied in 1 game. --claes (talk) 18:19, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks! Tooga - BØRK! 18:20, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Keep in mind that in NHL the format is in Win-Loss-Tie format, but in Sweden it is usually shown as Win-Tie-Loss, although as this is the English Wikipedia, the records for the Elitserien teams use Win-Loss-Tie format. --claes (talk) 18:23, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Wildside Gaming System cover.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Wildside Gaming System cover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Fair use rationale for File:En Garde cover.jpg

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
